With its environmentally conscious and sustainability-focused initiatives, Konya Technical University (KTUN) has taken an important step on the international stage by joining the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Network. The membership process was formalized as part of the 2025 UI GreenMetric Türkiye Workshop.
Hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), the workshop brought together participants from 37 universities in Türkiye as well as academics from Indonesia, Poland, Ethiopia, and Romania. The event aimed to strengthen knowledge exchange and collaboration within the framework of sustainable university management and a green campus vision.
Key speakers included Prof. Dr. Ir. Tommy Ilyas, an expert member of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings team, and Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Yıldırım, faculty member at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University and the UI GreenMetric Türkiye Coordinator.
Representing KTUN at the event were Lecturer Dr. Ahmet Akusta and Lecturer Engin Uslu from the Office of International Rankings, Sustainability, and Visibility. By signing the participation certificate at the workshop, KTUN officially became a member of the UI GreenMetric network.
Throughout the workshop, universities shared best practices in sustainability, and campus management strategies were extensively evaluated based on UI GreenMetric criteria. Structural and operational challenges in data collection and management processes were also discussed, and potential solutions were explored.
The event also emphasized the importance of improving access to academic publications related to sustainability. It was noted that facilitating access to academic indexes through national research support institutions such as YÖK and TÜBİTAK would positively contribute to universities' sustainability performance.
By becoming part of this important network, KTUN not only strengthened its sustainability vision but also opened the door to new collaborations at both national and international levels.
