The Opening Meeting of the Konya Closed Basin Hydrogeological Survey Project, to which faculty members from Konya Technical University also contributed scientifically, was held at the R&D Facilities of the 4th Regional Directorate of the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ).
Prof. Dr. Ayla Bozdağ and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Ferat Bayram from the Department of Geological Engineering at our university participated in the meeting, providing scientific support to the project with their expertise.
The project, conducted by the DSİ 4th Regional Directorate, aims to carry out geological, hydrogeological, and geophysical surveys in the Konya Closed Basin; monitor the quality and quantity of groundwater; identify sub-basins; calculate the water budget; and analyze the effects of climate change on water resources. Additionally, the project seeks to develop solution proposals for the protection of groundwater resources and to define the boundaries of protection zones.
The opening speeches of the meeting were delivered by Mehmet Alp, Director of DSİ 4th Regional Directorate, and İsmail Sevim, Head of the DSİ Groundwater Department.
The event was attended by DSİ technical staff, as well as academics from Konya Technical University, Necmettin Erbakan University, Aksaray University, Mersin University, and Istanbul Technical University, along with technical teams from public institutions and organizations in the provinces of Konya, Niğde, Karaman, and Aksaray.
This widely participated and interdisciplinary collaborative project is of great importance for the sustainable protection and management of groundwater resources in the Konya Closed Basin. Supported by the scientific contributions of our university, this initiative stands out as a strategic step for the future of the region’s water resources.
