Important Success from KTÜN Red Giant Rover Team in European Rover Challenge (ERC)

The RedGiant Rover Team, operating under the Unmanned Discovery Technologies Community of Konya Technical University (KTÜN) and supported by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Capsule Technology Platform, achieved a significant success in the European Rover Challenge (ERC), the largest Space and Robotics event in Europe.

 

KTÜN RedGiant Rover Team, representing our country, has participated for the first time in the European Rover Challenge (ERC) competition, that has been held with the participation of universities from different parts of the world since 2014 and is one of the largest robotics competitions in Europe, is among the 4 university teams from Turkey that made it to the finals. KTÜN RedGiant Rover Team, one of the 17 teams that managed to make it to the finals among nearly 100 applications made in Poland between 10-12 September 2021, finished the competition in 8th place.

 

KTÜN RedGiant Rover Team showed up for the competition with its “Rover” vehicle, which was designed and manufactured taking into account the surface conditions of Mars. The vehicle tried to complete tasks such as analyzing Mars geology, autonomous navigation, probe placement and collection with the robot arm, panel maintenance with the robot arm, in Mars surface conditions.

 

The RedGiant Rover Team, Consulted by KTÜN Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Member Dr. Muharrem Hilmi Aksoy, consists of 15 students studying in different departments under the team captaincy of Burak Alkaya from KTÜN Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Mechanical Engineering.
